Scholarships

The Rock Island Milan Education Foundation administers a number of scholarships each year, which reward and encourage high school students to pursue education after high school. Scholarship application forms for 2012 will be available on Jan. 2, 2012.

Thoms Family Above and Beyond Scholarship
For Junior status students only. Project based. Final award: $5,000. Deadline to apply for projects is April 21st. www.aboveandbeyondscholarship.com

Judith A. Katz Fine Arts Scholarship
For a student attending Augustana College. Preference will be given to those who have been in music, drama or art for two years and who wish to pursue a degree in the Fine Arts. Criteria based on financial need, active in school and community, citizenship and good academic standing. Student must verify admittance to Augustana. Potential award: $4,000.

Hass Family Scholarship
Open to students with a 3.0 GPA, good leadership skills and character. Must not be in the top 10. Potential award: $3,500.

The Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation Scholarship
Three individual scholarships are available: one for a student planning to attend a vocational/tech school, one for a student planning to attend a junior college, and one for a student planning to attend a traditional 4-year college. Award: $1,000.

Marler Clark Science Scholarship
For a student who is planning to attend college and has an interest in science. Must have a 3.0 or better GPA. Award: $2,000.

The Amy Helpenstell Liberal Arts Scholarship
For a student who is planning to attend Augustana College. Award based on financial need, citizenship and good academic standing. Students must verify admittance to Augustana. Potential award $1,000.

Stanley H. Coin Business Scholarship
Seniors who are in top 25% of the class may apply. Must have participated in the business curriculum at Rocky for at least two years. Financial need and school and community involvement are considered. Award: $1,000.

R. Decker Magee Memorial Scholarship
For student who is planning to attend college or vocational school. Based on participation in activities, character, and conduct. Must have a C+ average. Award: $500.

Rock Island High School Class of 1965
Scholarship Award based on financial need, citizenship, good academic standing, school and community activities. Award: $500.

Rick Gilliland Scholarship
For a student who is going to enter the field of education and planning to attend Black Hawk College, who hopefully will return to teach in the Rock Island school system. Award: $500.

Women’s Computer Science, I.T. & Math Scholarship
For a senior female student who is interested in pursuing a college degree in Math, Computer Science or Information Technology. Must have a 3.0 G.P.A. or better. Award: $500.
